roof debris caused house fire!

How would you like to see this headline about your house on the news?... 

Although it may seem farfetched, this is a very real risk from trees that drop leaves and other debris onto your roof.  On some of the dryer days of the year, especially during 'fireworks season,' or something as simple as having a backyard fire (where burning embers can float loose and can ignite dry tinder sitting on the rooftop) the risk for catching your home on fire increases with the amount of debris that's accumulated on the roof.  This can also happen with dry leaves and twigs that can accumulate in gutters too. 

One of the easiest ways to manage this is just to put it on your calendar every year and have your roof cleared of moss and debris and your gutters cleaned as well. 

So your annual maintenance checklist might look something like this:
- October-November, have gutters cleaned
- April-May. have the roof cleaned (and moss treated if necessary)

Keeping a regular maintenance schedule for these items, not only maximizes the life of your roof (typically 25 years), it also keeps your risk low from a potentially devastating fire.
